When the leaders of OpenAI and Anthropic themselves call for a slower AI buildout, it punctures the assumption that every chipmaker's demand forecast is bulletproof. Memory chips are the most boom-and-bust corner of semiconductors, so they lead both the up and the down leg — a 6-7% one-day drop shows how crowded and fragile the positioning is. With a rate hike looming and long-term borrowing costs near multi-decade highs, richly valued AI hardware names have little cushion. A follow-through short on the weakest group is the cleaner expression than guessing when the whole AI complex bounces.
