When a central bank steps in to buy its own currency and the market erases half the effect within days, it tells you the underlying pressure is overwhelming. The yen's failure to hold intervention gains shows traders are confident the Bank of Japan is powerless against rising US rates. The dollar catching a bid from higher oil prices adds a second, independent tailwind — if oil keeps climbing, it forces the US to keep rates high, widening the interest rate gap between the dollar and yen even further.
