Oil spikes and Fed hints at rate hikes — short the broad market on a stagflation

Rising oil prices act as a tax on the broader economy, threatening corporate profit margins and consumer spending. When this is combined with Federal Reserve officials openly suggesting interest rate hikes to cool inflation, the economic pressure intensifies significantly. Higher borrowing costs and elevated energy expenses create a punishing environment for stocks, making a broad market pullback highly likely.
Strategy approach
Build a swing trading strategy that shorts broad US equities (using SPY or QQQ) on the D1 timeframe. Entry conditions: Enter short when front-month crude oil futures (CL=F) close up >3% for three consecutive days AND the 10-year Treasury yield (TNX) closes at a 15-day high. Exit conditions: Close the position if oil prices (CL=F) drop more than 3% from the entry close, or hold for a maximum of 10 trading days.
