Private equity buying easyJet at $7.7 billion looks like a peak-of-cycle signal — these firms are famous for buying at the top, not the bottom. At the same time, oil is dropping on easing Middle East tensions, which sounds good for airlines but actually removes the supply-side pressure that has been keeping a lid on capacity growth.
