When Japan boosts the yen, Japanese investors normally dump US Treasury bonds to bring their money home, pushing bond prices down. However, the Treasury Secretary is pushing a new Fed facility that gives Japan a safer way to manage its dollars without forcing those bond sales, which protects bond prices. At the same time, the sudden yen spike alongside crashing oil prices signals rapidly easing global inflation pressure, which is the perfect fundamental backdrop for a sustained bond market rally.
