AI spending is on track toward $1.15 trillion, and with newcomers like SpaceX joining the big cloud players as data-center builders, demand keeps growing for the chips and hardware that supply raw computing power. Morgan Stanley adds that free, openly available AI models will push demand for that computing power even higher, while making it harder for software companies to charge premium prices for their products. That helps explain why software names like Palantir and Microsoft dropped this week even as the broader AI trade stays hot. The money has to come from somewhere, and right now it is flowing out of software budgets and into computing hardware. Bet on that split by owning the chip and hardware makers while betting against the richly valued software names.
