High crude prices directly drive drilling activity and service contracts, so oilfield services companies benefit with a lag as producers rush to bring supply online — a different, slower-burning trade than simply holding producer stocks. With supply disruptions ongoing, service names can outperform producers on the follow-through leg of the move.
