Copper's record high is being driven by both a genuine supply squeeze and rising US tariff concerns, and the US-Canada tit-for-tat trade escalation makes those tariff pressures worse, not better. When a metal hits all-time highs on structural supply problems, producers with low costs capture outsized profits. With tariffs due to take effect September 29 and more barriers likely, the squeeze on tradable copper supply should persist. Unlike the crowded oil trade, copper's breakout is flying under the radar for retail traders.
