Two genuinely different forces are pulling on oil right now: OPEC+ is deliberately refusing to add supply while Iran's war is already knocking out production, so oil can stay high in the near term even as demand softens. But the Treasury Secretary is openly floating $40 oil once the war ends, and cheaper oil directly lowers inflation and bond yields — which matters a lot in a market where rising rates are flagged as the biggest threat to asset prices. That sets up a trade neither story supports alone: stay short oil-related exposure near-term while OPEC tightens, positioned to flip into falling-yield beneficiaries the moment the war premium starts coming out of crude.
