Wholesale inflation is already running at 5.4%, and even the 'as expected' print carried firmer underlying details, so price pressure is broadening rather than fading. A hot consumer-price number tomorrow would all but lock in a Fed hike, which hits borrowing costs and squeezes household budgets. Discretionary retailers and big-ticket sellers are the most exposed part of the market to that squeeze. Shorting the consumer discretionary sector on a hot print is a direct, defined-risk way to trade that outcome.
