Most oil trades chase the producers, but the attacks on shipping have done something different: they've made it record-breakingly expensive to actually move oil by sea, and tanker owners collect those fees directly. With the conflict ongoing and the oil rally described as having legs, elevated freight rates should persist rather than fade in a day. Tanker stocks are a cleaner, more leveraged way to play the shipping disruption itself than producers, whose revenues depend mostly on the crude price.
