High-level US–China meetings are usually announced before they produce headlines, and markets tend to bid up Chinese stocks in the days ahead of them on hope of tariff relief. The fact that this sit-down precedes a Trump–Xi summit gives it extra weight — it looks like groundwork for a deal rather than a one-off talk. Chinese ADRs have been beaten down amid the broader tech and rate selloff, so they have room to pop on any diplomatic good news. The trade is to hold into the meeting and exit immediately after, because once the talks conclude, the 'hope' premium disappears whether or not anything concrete is agreed.
