Broadcom rattles AI chip trade — short the semiconductor slide

Thesis

Broadcom's weak outlook has punctured the hype around AI semiconductor stocks. Because these companies had rallied so much in recent months, this sudden shift in mood is triggering a rapid exit by investors, dragging down related chipmakers like AMD and TSMC. Even though one analyst raised their price target on Broadcom, the overall market fear is likely to push these stocks lower in the short term as investors scramble to lock in their gains.

Strategy approach

Build a mean-reversion short strategy for semiconductor equities. Focus on TSM, AMD, and AVGO. Use the daily timeframe. Enter short when the stock price opens below the lower Bollinger Band (20, 2) and the RSI(14) is below 35. Exit when the price touches the upper Bollinger Band or after a 5-day max hold. Use a 3% stop loss.
