The AI trade depends on companies continuing to spend enormous sums on data centers, and now the industry's own leaders are telling investors to expect a slowdown — that removes the growth story propping up these valuations. At the same time, the 10-year government bond yield has surged to levels not seen since 2007, and higher safe returns make speculative growth stocks look expensive by comparison. Either force alone would pressure mega-cap tech; together they form a double headwind that pure rotation trades (into staples or value) don't fully capture. Shorting the biggest growth names directly monetizes the squeeze rather than just hiding from it.
