Even if you can't buy SpaceX shares easily, the excitement usually lifts the tide for established defense and satellite imaging stocks as investors look to cash in on the trend. Retail and institutional money looking for exposure will likely rotate into these adjacent companies. This creates a short-term momentum opportunity in an otherwise quiet sector.
Strategy approach
Build a momentum strategy for the 'SpaceX IPO halo effect' on defense and satellite communications stocks (e.g., MAXR, LMT, NOC) on the daily timeframe. Enter long when the stock closes above its upper Bollinger Band (20, 2) on high relative volume (>150% of 20-day average). Exit when the stock closes below the 10-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), or hold for a maximum of 10 trading days.
