HCA is the largest for-profit hospital chain in the country and a direct peer, yet it's lagging behind in the immediate reaction. History shows that when one major player in a tight-knit sector crushes expectations, money managers rotate into the competitors within days, expecting them to report similar good news when their own earnings arrive.
Strategy approach
Build a rule-based strategy that enters long HCA on D1 when peer stock THC gaps up ≥10% on earnings day and HCA closes up less than 2% on the same day. Hold for 10 trading days. Exit if HCA makes a new 20-day high (take profit) or drops 4% from entry (stop loss).
