The AI buildout is being financed with debt, and surging government bond yields are raising the cost of that borrowing just as a hot jobs report threatens to push yields even higher. Companies that borrowed cheaply to build data centers now face heavier interest bills, squeezing cash flow and making their stocks more fragile than AI firms funded from their own balance sheets. With another yield spike potentially triggered by the upcoming employment data, the most leveraged AI names have the least cushion. Pairing longs in low-debt AI winners against shorts in the most indebted builders captures this split without betting on the AI trend itself.
