A wave of selling is hitting the semiconductor sector as investors suddenly question whether the massive spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure will deliver the profits they expected. When panic sets in that corporate spending on tech might slow down, it often triggers a domino effect that pushes these highly valued stocks down even faster. With Asian markets preparing to open lower on the same fears, the negative momentum is clearly spreading across the globe. This makes the upcoming days a prime opportunity to bet against chip manufacturers until the panic subsides.
Strategy approach
Build a short-term momentum strategy on D1 timeframe that enters short SMH, NVDA, or AMD when the ETF or stock breaks below its lower Bollinger Band(20, 2) on high relative volume. Place a 2 ATR(14) trailing stop and exit the position automatically if the price closes back above the 20-day simple moving average.
