Feds just legalized the most popular crypto trading product in America — long Coinbase as the first-mover winner
The U.S. government just gave the green light for crypto 'perpetual futures' — a hugely popular trading product that until now could only be accessed through offshore exchanges. Coinbase is among the first platforms approved to offer it to American customers.
Idea
Perpetual futures are the single most-traded crypto product globally, and until now Americans had to use offshore exchanges to access them. Bringing this product onshore is a big deal for Coinbase — it unlocks a massive new revenue stream from fees on U.S.-based traders who've been waiting for a regulated option. When major regulatory barriers fall, the companies first in line tend to see a surge in both trading volume and investor enthusiasm. Coinbase being named specifically as an approved platform gives it a head start competitors won't easily match.
