Hormuz Strait blocked and mined through year-end — load up on Big Oil
Iran has mined critical sections of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway that roughly one-fifth of the world's oil passes through. Industry experts now expect the supply disruption to drag on through the end of 2026, even if the route reopens soon.
Idea
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil-shipping lanes on Earth. With Iran mining it and experts forecasting disruptions lasting through year-end, a big chunk of global oil supply is at risk for months. When supply gets squeezed for that long, oil prices tend to stay high, and the big producers — companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron — rake in more revenue per barrel. These companies also tend to reward shareholders with buybacks and dividends when profits surge, adding a second tailwind to the stock price.
